Looking straight down Otemae Street toward Himeji Station from the "Bizenmaru" square below the Main Keep. This is the exact reverse perspective of View No. 21, showcasing a modern cityscape that would surely make a feudal lord faint from shock.
The Story
This is a view looking south towards Himeji Station from "Bizenmaru," the open square located directly in front of the Main Keep. The main avenue stretching straight down the center of the frame ends right at modern-day JR Himeji Station.
This is the exact opposite perspective of View No. 21! While No. 21 looked up at the castle from the station's "Castle View" deck, this one looks down from the castle to the station. This brilliant urban design, where the station and the castle gaze at each other, is one of Himeji's greatest charms.
When the castle was built, the area below was filled only with low wooden houses, completely enveloped in pitch-black darkness at night. If the lords of the past were to time-travel to the present and stand here, how would they react? Towering buildings reaching into the sky, countless car headlights streaming down the massive avenue, and vivid illuminations lighting up the entire city like a sleepless fortress. The sheer gap between the empty landscape of their time and this modern metropolis would undoubtedly make their knees give out from pure shock! (laughs)
