Technology, travel, photography, and the castle in my hometown. After many years in Hong Kong, I document the cities that change around me and the landscapes that endure.
My story begins in Hong Kong, where I moved in 1993, and in the electronics markets of Sham Shui Po. Smartphones, gadgets, camera accessories: amid the energy of a place where new tools kept appearing, my interest in recording the world gradually took shape.
I began taking photographs with an iPhone and eventually moved to Leica. That curiosity about tools became a way of looking at the light in a city, the atmosphere of a place I was visiting, and Himeji Castle back home.
After years abroad, I would return to Japan and walk around Himeji Castle. Seeing it through the eyes of visitors from overseas helped me appreciate a landscape I had once been too close to truly see. 36 Views of White Heron Castle is my way of preserving those discoveries in photographs and words.
