A breathtaking view revealed by casually looking back just before Hishi no Mon. The continuous stone walls and tiled roofs act as a natural frame, highlighting the Main Keep bathed in the golden light of the late afternoon sun.

The Story

I found this angle when I casually glanced back while keeping Hishi no Mon to my front-left. Beyond the impressive stone walls and tiled roofs extending to the east of the gate, I saw Himeji Castle glowing beautifully in the setting sun.

Rather than just shooting the keep in isolation, using elements of the gate, the formidable stone walls, and the sweeping tiles in the foreground to "frame" the keep creates a sense of scale and profound depth across the entire castle grounds.

The soft, slanting rays of the late afternoon sun dyed the usually pristine white plaster walls in warm, golden hues. It is a profoundly beautiful evening scene that evokes a sense of nostalgia within its majestic presence.

Photo Tips

  • LocationNear the stone wall east of Hishi no Mon (Coordinates: 34.838521, 134.692622)
  • Photo TipsUse the stone walls and tiled roofs in the foreground to create a "framing effect." This emphasizes the three-dimensional presence of the keep in the background. The late afternoon, when the white walls glow warmly, is the perfect time.
  • Viewing PerspectiveSometimes the best views are found not by looking ahead, but by glancing back. Enjoy the "layered" scenery unique to this complex fortress.
