At 8:00 PM, Himeji Castle's illumination transforms from pure white to a bewitching display of purple and blue. Witnessing this dramatic daily change from the front row at Sangoku-bori is a luxury exclusive to the private night tour.
The Story
This shot was taken from the exact same location as View No. 25. The castle's illumination is programmed to change regularly. At the stroke of 8:00 PM, the pure white light dramatically shifts to a colorful, almost "bewitching" blend of blues and reddish-purples.
As I mentioned previously, I personally believe that the pure white light is the most fitting for the "White Heron Castle." Yet, considering current trends, I couldn't help but feel that many overseas tourists might actually prefer these slightly flashier, more entertaining colors.
While this lighting change itself can be seen from outside the castle grounds, being able to photograph this bewitching figure from up close at "Sangoku-bori" after the gates have closed is a privilege reserved only for participants of the exclusive night tour. With the strict no-tripod rule, the tension of shooting handheld only added to the profound experience of exploring the castle at night.

- Photo TipsColorful LED lights can easily overexpose. Slightly lower the exposure (underexpose) to preserve the rich, bewitching color gradations.
