Sannomaru Square — Guardians Under Blue Sky
Rescue Team Performance / At Himeji Castle Sannomaru Square
Elite rescue workers perform their breathtaking aerial display, soaring to heights rivaling the great keep itself. A modern view both awe-inspiring and beautiful, set against the blue sky and the famous castle.
The Story
This scene, like View No. 23, was captured during the Himeji City Fire Brigade's New Year's Fire Review (Dezomeshiki) on January 11, 2026.
The weather that day was incredibly harsh, with strong gusts of wind and occasional snow flurries. Due to safety concerns in the rough conditions, the fire trucks had to operate their aerial ladders at a lower height than originally planned. Yet, even under such challenging circumstances, the highly trained rescue workers delivered an astonishing mid-air performance. Watching them dynamically "dance" in the clear blue sky, seemingly reaching the very height of the grand Main Keep, was a breathtakingly beautiful and powerful sight.
What made this performance even more captivating was the excellent live announcement echoing through the venue. The announcer introduced each airborne rescue worker not just by name, but by sharing charming, humorous details about their personalities and hobbies. This warm commentary brought delightful smiles and laughter from the crowd.
It was a perfect contrast: the display of rigorous, life-saving training balanced by lighthearted humor. Surrounded by the warm, unified atmosphere of the venue, I felt a deep sense of pride and profound reassurance, knowing that the beautiful city of Himeji and its historic castle are protected by such wonderful, dedicated people.
