A hidden spring gem, just slightly off the main sightseeing route. From partway up the gentle slope leading to Senhime Peony Garden, looking up at the castle reveals a dreamlike vista of the white keep floating above a sea of cherry blossoms.

The Story

When visiting Himeji Castle, the standard route is to enter through the Sakuramon Gate, walk past Sannomaru Square, and head straight for the main ticket booth. However, we highly recommend taking a slight detour. Try walking up the gentle slope leading to the "Senhime Peony Gardens" (Senhime Botan-en) on the western side of the square.

If you stop halfway up this slope and look back toward the Main Keep, a miraculous composition reveals itself. With layers of full-bloom cherry blossoms stretching from the foreground, the majestic white castle appears to float gracefully on a sea of pink petals.

It is a beautiful, spring-filled "detour" view, hidden right next to the main path that most visitors hurriedly walk past. This spot teaches us the profound depth of Himeji Castle and the joy of new discoveries that come from simply wandering a little off the beaten path.
